Job Description

Aerospace & Defence Technology | Electronics Engineer | Westcott Venture Park | £39K - £49K

About the Company:

Our client is a rapidly growing software company based near Oxford & Bicester with an office in White City, London. They are leaders in developing Machine Learning & Digital Twin software for the Aerospace, Defence and Urban Air Mobility sectors.

The company is small, highly technical and collaborative, giving engineers the opportunity to take real ownership of complex product development rather than working in a narrow or heavily layered role.

About the Role:

They are currently seeking an Electronics Engineer to join their engineering team at Westcott Venture Park, near Bicester. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you will contribute across the full electronics development lifecycle, from concept and hardware selection through to schematic and PCB design, system integration, testing and troubleshooting.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop high-performance flight safety and navigation products, while producing strong technical documentation and supporting customer integration projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Design sensor, communications and control electronics for unmanned aerial systems.
  • Work across the full hardware lifecycle, including concept, component selection, schematic design, PCB layout, system integration and design for manufacture.
  • Follow and improve engineering processes, design methodologies and ECAD libraries.
  • Define and run rigorous tests for individual and integrated electronics systems.
  • Produce clear, high-quality design documentation and technical test reports.
  • Troubleshoot electronics and low-level communications issues using oscilloscopes, load generators, multimeters and other lab equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to deliver complete, operational solutions.
  • Evaluate and select components based on cost, interfaces, lead times and long-term availability.
  • Support customer engagements by translating user requirements into clear design requirements.
  • Contribute to high-quality, reliable and manufacturable electronics systems for aerospace and defence applications.

Requirements:

  • BEng degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, ideally 2:1 or above.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the design, testing and troubleshooting of power and sensor board designs.
  • Strong experience interpreting and manipulating schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts and routing.
  • Hands-on experience in lab-based prototyping, R&D and manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency with EDA tools such as KiCAD, Altium Designer or equivalent.
  • Strong practical experience using oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads and multimeters.
  • Comfortable working within the defence industry.
  • Willing and eligible to complete BPSS checks and obtain, or already hold, UK SC clearance.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce detailed design documentation and test reports.
  • Experience with PCB reworking, including wire mounted, through-hole and surface-mount soldering, is a plus.
  • Experience achieving UKCA/CE product certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and/or AS9100 standards is a plus.
  • Familiarity with DO-254 aerospace design standards is a plus.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Competitive salary of £39K-£49K.
  • Full-time role with immediate start available.
  • Onsite position at Westcott Venture Park, near Bicester, with hybrid working potentially considered.
  • Opportunity to join a rapidly growing company at the forefront of aerospace, defence and autonomous systems technology.
  • Work with a talented multidisciplinary team shaping the future of machine learning, digital twin and flight safety technology.
  • Flexible, professional and inclusive working culture.
  • 33 days’ annual holiday pro rata.
  • Employee Assistance Programme, Health Cash Plan, Cycle to Work Scheme, company discounts and rewards.
  • Technology Salary Sacrifice Scheme and Pension Salary Sacrifice Scheme.
  • Company-paid flu jabs, gym discounts, enhanced maternity leave, company-paid sick leave, paid jury service and support for continuous professional development.
