THE PROJECT
The Co-op will be assigned to the Robotics department in the Seguin, Texas Schaeffler Automotive plant. In addition, the Co-op will collaborate closely with the engineering and manufacturing teams on a daily basis, contributing to a range of innovative and technically challenging projects. This role is an excellent opportunity for a working student to gain practical experience alongside their studies.

Gain understanding of robotic functions, programming, and uses

Gain understanding of PLC to Cobot interface

Develop controlled experiments to characterize robot capabilities for new use cases

Collect and analyze maintenance data to develop a preventative maintenance plan for robot arms

Gain understanding of best practices and methods for CAD modeling and drawings
-
Work with experienced engineers to implement new robot use cases
-
Monitor robotic implementations for continuous improvement opportunities
THE OUTCOME

Understanding of robotics use cases in modern manufacturing environment

Clear understanding of programming, advantages, and drawbacks for industrial vs collaborative robotic arms

Recommendations for enhanced robotic uses in manufacturing lines
Basic Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher per semester

Must be able to present scope and outcome of project to management

Solidworks CAD experience

Good interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand/climb/stoop/bend/carry up to 28 pounds

Electronics knowledge + ability to troubleshoot using schematics
