The School of Engineering invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in the field of Power Electronic Converters and Devices.
The post is on the Research and Teaching Pathway. You will initiate, develop and deliver high quality research, publish top-tier journal papers and demonstrate the potential for impact from your research. You will also engage with higher education pedagogy, develop novel teaching methods, and embrace changes in teaching technology and expectations so that you teach to the highest quality on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the School.
We seek applicants with demonstrated leadership and expertise in Wide Bandgap and/or Ultra-Wide Bandgap power semiconductor devices, converters and systems as the role will be expected to develop a leading independent research programme.
The postholder will contribute to research leadership in power electronic devices and converters, strengthen existing activities in power electronics and electronic materials, and develop collaborations with industrial and academic partners. The role provides opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary research and to contribute to the development of externally funded research programmes.
The successful applicant is expected to pursue research that makes fundamental contributions to their field, while also addressing real-world, industrial challenges with practical relevance – potentially working across disciplines.
Consideration will also be given to alignment with the University’s Research Technology Platforms and established research infrastructure. We are especially interested in candidates whose work can leverage or contribute to the School’s collaborative, translational, and industrially engaged research environment.
About You
You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline. Applicants should demonstrate how their work complements existing power electronics activities within the School, or brings new and strategically aligned research directions.
We are particularly interested in candidates with an established international research profile with evidence of research leadership in WBG and/or Ultra-WBG Power Electronics. We also particularly welcome applications from candidates with strong links to the power electronics and semiconductor industries, and a track record of collaborative and translational research.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong research portfolio in power semiconductor design, processing, power converter design, modelling, hardware realisation, and control, with relevance to electrification challenges such as renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, and/or sustainable transport. Experience with wide bandgap and ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors and their deployment in advanced converter architectures is particularly desirable.
For an
Assistant Professor
appointment, you must be able to demonstrate the capability to establish an independent research activity, which has the ambition and potential to become internationally leading. For an Associate Professor appointment, you will have already established a high-quality independent research activity and have been awarded substantial research funding from external sources, while having experience in successful delivery of teaching activities.
If appointed as an
Assistant Professor
, you will be appointed for a probationary period (usually five years) during which you will be given a reduced teaching and administration load to enable you to establish your research group. Successful completion of probation will coincide with promotion to a permanent Associate Professor position.

About The Department
The School of Engineering is a multidisciplinary department that aspires to conduct research to internationally leading standards. The School has recently established Research Clusters, launched in the Summer of 2025.
This post aligns to the
Electrical Power and Control (EPC) Cluster.
The Cluster comprises of at least 12 academic staff. Existing staff pursue research related to WBG Power Semiconductor Device Fabrication, Epitaxial Growth of WBG Semiconductor crystals, Modelling and Characterisation of WBG Power Devices, Device Packaging, Reliability, Application of Power Devices, Control of Electric Drives, Energy Storage, Power Systems and the application of AI to energy systems.

We are open to broadening the activities of the Research Cluster and are open to making appointments that are cross traditional discipline boundaries.
Warwick operates Research Technology Platforms (RTPs) which enable access to high-end facilities at cross-department level (https://warwick.ac.uk/research/rtp/). Academics in Engineering use these on a regular basis with the Nano Fabrication, Scientific Computing and various characterisation-related RTPs (Electron Microscopy, Spectroscopy, X-Ray Computed Tomography, X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Photoemission Spectroscopy, Warwick Centre for Ultrafast Spectroscopy) frequently used. Applicants may wish to give consideration as to how their research links to such facilities.
The School of Engineering leads various undergraduate and taught Masters courses and has > 1,600 students on taught courses with an annual Year 1 undergraduate intake of c. 480 students. Students on our undergraduate programmes follow a common programme of study in Year 1. After this, most students choose to join specialised courses. Applicants should specify how they can contribute to teaching in their application, giving consideration to both our undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes.
