About The Role

We are expanding our Drone Delivery team at DoorDash Labs and seeking passionate engineers to join our mission of reimagining logistics through unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology. This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop and deploy sophisticated drone systems capable of autonomous flight and delivery operations in real-world environments. As part of the team, you will work at the intersection of software, hardware, and robotics, transforming bold visions into practical, scalable solutions that push the boundaries of innovation. Reporting to the Engineering Management within DoorDash Labs, you will be instrumental in designing software for advanced drone hardware, integrating sensors, and ensuring seamless communication between drones, ground control stations, and cloud systems.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience in software development for robotics or autonomous systems.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS/ROS 2).
• Familiarity with sensor integration and data processing techniques.
• Hands-on experience with debugging tools and techniques for robotic systems.
• Experience working with drones, autonomous vehicles, or similar robotic platforms.
• Strong understanding of real-time systems, sensor fusion, and control algorithms.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy software for advanced drone hardware, focusing on autonomous flight and delivery capabilities.
• Build applications that operate on real-time robotics platforms, interfacing with multiple sensors and actuators.
• Develop and implement algorithms for onboard perception, sensor fusion, state estimation, and control systems.
• Utilize ROS/ROS 2 to create modular robotic applications for navigation, obstacle avoidance, and payload management.
• Establish and maintain communication protocols to ensure seamless data exchange between drones, ground control stations, and cloud backend systems.
• Conduct rigorous testing, debugging, and validation of drone software through simulations, hardware-in-the-loop setups, and real-world flight tests.
• Collaborate with backend and infrastructure teams to integrate drone systems into a cohesive delivery ecosystem.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in drone technology, robotics, and automation to inform ongoing development efforts.
