We are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in Frascati, Italy.
The senior embedded software engineer shall be a part of the software development team and will be in SPiN Italian HQ. This person shall be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining drivers, API, and software on MA61C products. This includes designing plug-and-play functionalities for new subsystems, improving the existing run time, and validating and verifying the new functionalities.
The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:
- Embedded software development;
- Develop embedded C in space-borne processers;
- Develop functions for the API in C++;
- Validation and verification with hardware in the loop;
- Drivers Database management;
- Define/implement requirements along with ensuring that the software meets the required performance;
- Implement test software, scripts for functional tests, HiL tests, and hardware-software integration testing;
- Support software verification and validation, support in functional test verification’
- Software design documentation and test plans;
- Research into new technologies for next-generation products;
- Support in generating requirements for the development of the MA61C-GUI upgrade;
- Participate in solving interdisciplinary challenges;
- Maintain software applications including fixing bugs, making updates, and addressing issues that arise after deployment along with customer support (if necessary).

Requirements:
- MSc/PhD in Electrical, Computer Science or similar;
- At least 2 years of experience working in the Space Industry with knowledge of spacecraft subsystems;
- Experience in embedded programming C/C++ for LEON (SPARC V8);
- Knowledge of real-time embedded OS, test tools, software and coding standards;
- Experience working with Microprocessors;
- Experience working with Eclipse;
- Familiarity with the use of version control software;
- Experience developing system-level documentation such as Software design descriptions, Test procedures/reports;
- Knowledge of debugging with hardware in a loop;
- Knowledge of working with measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, and multimeters is a plus;
- Knowledge of Java and VHDL is an asset;
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
