Waymo's Compute Team is tasked with a critical and exciting mission: We deliver the compute platform responsible for running the autonomous vehicle's software stack. To achieve our mission, we architect and create high-performance custom silicon; we develop system-level compute architectures that push the boundaries of performance, power, and latency; and we collaborate with many other teammates to ensure we design and improve hardware and software for maximum performance. In this hybrid role, you will report to a Software Engineering Manager.
This position will require the ability to work some hours that align with the team in the Pacific Time zone on an as needed basis.
You Will
- Maximize performance of our neural networks by enhancing and extending our production grade compiler
- Work with hardware architects and model developers to develop understanding of our unique neural network inference platform and neural networks

Implement compiler support for novel features of our high-performance architecture
- BS degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience and 3+ years of industry experience OR
- MS degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering and 1+ years of industry experience OR
- PhD Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent years of experience
- 1+ years of industry and/or academic experience with compilers and parallel computing
- 1+ years of industry and/or academic experience working with ML inference or linear algebra computations

C++ programming skills
- Python programming experience
- Experience with compilers for neural networks
- Knowledge of computer architectures used for neural network inference, and neural network performance characteristics

Knowledge of the principles behind popular machine learning and neural network algorithms and applications

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

What we're looking for
At embedd.it, we power hardware-software integration in embedded devices. We turn fragmented semiconductor chip data into configurable digital twins, then deterministically generate code, tests, and documentation – making integration faster, cheaper, and resilient to supply chain shocks.
We’re looking for a true legend – someone with abstract thinking and deep expertise in low-level software development. You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. We work at the intersection of embedded systems, code generation, compilers, and machine learning. It’s your chance to help redefine how low-level development is done.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
