Company Overview

A rapidly growing startup specializing in next-generation robotic solutions is seeking a skilled Electrical & Electronics Development Engineer to join its hardware development team. The company develops compact autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) capable of transporting heavy loads and towing existing carts without modification-offering innovative solutions to industries such as logistics and manufacturing that are facing significant labor shortages and transformation.

Position Summary

This role involves end-to-end responsibility for electrical and electronics development of robotic platforms, including component selection, wire harness design, circuit evaluation, prototyping, and compliance with safety standards. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers to deliver safe, efficient, and scalable hardware systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical design and prototyping of robotics components (motors, PCBs, FA components)
  • Design and development of wire harnesses and cable assemblies
  • Component selection (connectors, wires, motors, etc.) and cost-performance optimization
  • Noise countermeasures, thermal and current calculations, and derating analysis
  • Compliance with relevant safety and legal standards (ISO3691-4, ISO26262, UL, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting and analysis of hardware issues
  • Occasional visits to customer sites for hardware investigation and support
  • Coordination with prototyping and mass-production suppliers
  • Optional involvement in adjacent domains (mechanical or embedded) depending on interest and experience

Team Structure

You will join the Hardware Development Team within the core technology division. The team handles:

  • Electrical and mechanical design for multiple robotics platforms
  • Prototyping, performance testing, and mass production preparation
  • Occasional travel for site visits and supplier communication

Tools & Technologies

  • Robotics Platforms: Compact AMRs and tow-robots developed in-house
  • Software Tools: Linux (Ubuntu), ROS, Docker
  • Communication: Slack, Notion
  • Hardware Design: SolidWorks, KiCAD, Bambu Lab 3D Printer

Required Qualifications

  • Experience developing mechatronic products (e.g., robots, vehicles) with over 100 units mass-produced
  • Basic electronics experience (e.g., circuit design, soldering, prototyping)
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks
  • Intermediate-level Japanese (for supplier communication)
  • Intermediate-level English (for internal communication in a multilingual team)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design experience in autonomous or mobile robotics
  • Experience with mass production of automotive-style wire harnesses
  • Familiarity with functional safety (e.g., ISO3691-4, ISO26262)
  • Electrical certifications or knowledge of high-voltage systems
  • Knowledge of global standards (e.g., UL regulations)
  • Experience with BLDC motors or lithium-ion battery systems
  • Experience using CAD tools for schematic and PCB design
  • Cost and material optimization in cable assemblies
  • C++ or Python programming skills
  • Customer communication experience
  • Participation in tech competitions or hardware hackathons
  • Ability to flexibly support additional roles if needed (e.g., software, QA, manufacturing)

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Broad technical knowledge across electrical, mechanical, and embedded domains
  • Willingness to take on challenges beyond prior experience
  • Strong curiosity and self-driven learning habits
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment
  • Comfortable in a multilingual and multicultural workplace
  • Interested in contributing to real-world robotics deployment and transformation of industry

Compensation

  • ยฅ5,000,000 - ยฅ8,000,000 annually (Negotiable based on experience and expertise)

Location

  • Based in Japan (with on-site lab access for hardware testing)
  • Remote work flexibility available
  • Occasional business travel required (e.g., customer sites, supplier visits)
