Our Biotech Group tackles critical challenges in human interfacing, performance, and diagnostics—developing devices like smart life preservers for aircrew survival, wearable hydration monitors for long missions, and AR/VR tools for training enhancement.
Primary Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated Firmware Engineer Level III to join our interdisciplinary team and help develop embedded firmware solutions for a range of biomedical and mechatronic technologies. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to early-stage R&D and product development. Primary responsibilities and duties associated with this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design and implement embedded firmware across diverse hardware platforms (e.g., TI, STM32, Arduino).
- Lead hardware selection and systems integration efforts for biomedical and wearable sensor platforms.
- Support transition of electrical/mechatronic systems from prototype to product.
- Write and maintain clear technical documentation and design protocols.
- Collaborate with engineers from diverse backgrounds (mechanical, electrical, biomedical, chemical).
- Conduct validation testing, data collection, and sensor/actuator integration.
- Contribute to concept development and early-stage product design through literature reviews, simulation, and experimentation.

Utilize Luna-developed technology to address complex technical challenges in emerging biotech applications.
- Embedded systems programming
- Microcontroller development (TI, Arduino, STM32, etc.)
- PCB layout tools (Altium, KiCad, Eagle)
- Digital and analog circuit design
- Electrical measurement tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, etc.)
- Experience with sensor and actuator integration, testing, and validation.

Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Experience with mechatronics design and rapid prototyping.
- Familiarity with digital circuit simulation and feedback systems.

Work Environment
- Onsite work in a laboratory setting with regular interaction with technical staff.
- Occasional travel to client sites, conferences, and between company locations.

We’re looking for a true legend – someone with abstract thinking and deep expertise in low-level software development. You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. We work at the intersection of embedded systems, code generation, compilers, and machine learning. It’s your chance to help redefine how low-level development is done.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
