Your role and responsibilities

IBM is seeking a skilled AI Software Engineer, specialized in AI for Quantum, for a position in Spain, reporting to the T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining robust solutions in the domain of AI for Quantum, using modern frameworks, tools, and practices, while leveraging existing resources in the AI field. The ideal candidate should possess hands-on experience in applying Reinforcement Learning to Quantum Computing problems, professional programming experience in Python and Rust, knowledge of Qiskit and its transpiler, familiarity with CI/CD systems and microservices architectures, and expertise in complex R&D projects. The candidate is expected to work closely with interdisciplinary engineering and research teams.

Good communication skills and the ability to handle fast-paced, complex work are essential. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated and driven individual who can work independently as well as in multi-team settings.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Knowledge of Reinforcement Learning fundamentals
• Practical experience with RL-based projects
• Programming skills in Python, Rust, and other relevant languages
• Familiarity with Qiskit and Quantum Computing concepts
• Proficiency in source code management using GitHub
• Experience with monitoring tools like LogDNA, Sysdig, or similar alternatives
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools, including Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with CI/CD environments, such as Tekton, Argo CD, Travis CI, and others
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms, including IBM Cloud, Azure, and AWS

• Proven expertise in Reinforcement Learning, with experience in conceptualizing, implementing, and resolving classical problems using RL
• In-depth knowledge of RL-based algorithm implementation
• Hands-on experience with Qiskit and Quantum Computing concepts, with a strong understanding of their applications
• Ability to leverage distributed environments for AI tasks, including training, inference, and related activities
• Practical experience applying AI techniques to quantum computing challenges in the AI for Quantum domain
• A track record of contributing to developer ecosystems, communities, and open-source projects, with a commitment to collaboration and knowledge sharing
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and clearly articulate complex ideas
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a systematic approach to resolving complex issues
